Our team is cross-functional, cross-regional, experienced and committed.

Dr. Winfried Weigel

Winfried brings in more than 20 years experience in capital markets, corporate finance and private equity, having worked with leading investment banks in New York, London, Frankfurt and Zurich. He led various multi-billion dollar privatizations, mergers and acquisitions and participated in various large-scale IPOs and Public takeovers in Germany, Switzerland and Austria. Since founding Weigel Corporate Finance he advised on more than hundred transactions with a total transaction value of more than two billion dollars. He was also involved in forming various start-up companies, e.g. Telehouse Facilities AG, IntelliSite B.V., IX Europe, paybox Austria AG, Mobilkom Austria AG, Allamanda Networks AG, RCM Renewable Credit Management.

Winfried earned an undergraduate degree in Engineering from Karlsruhe Institute of Technology and a Diplom-Kaufmann degree (MBA) from Frankfurt university. He also studied law and earned a LL.M. at the Institut for Law and Finance at Frankfurt university. He wrote is doctoral thesis on modern finance theory and he is teaching Transaction Services at the University of St. Gall (HSG) in Switzerland.

Before forming Weigel Corporate Finance, Winfried worked as an Executive Director and as a Managing Director at UBS Investment Banking in Zurich and Frankfurt, as an Executive Director at Warburg Dillon Read in London and as a Vice President at J.P. Morgan with postings in London, New York, and Prague.

Gustavo Weigel

South America

Gustavo Weigel is Head of the South America region. With more than twenty five years of international professional experience, he is mostly focused on M&A transactions, business valuations, investment projects and finance structuring. He led more than 100 deals and projects in different industries like banks, insurances, food and beverages, ports, logistics, agribusiness, renewable energies and real estate.

In 2000, Gustavo founded the South American arm Weigel Haller, in Montevideo, as a Corporate Finance Firm dedicated to advice companies and individuals to develop business projects in South America. Before starting his own business, he built up his career at Coopers & Lybrand, Price Waterhouse and in several Management and Board of Directors positions in multinational and regional companies.

Gustavo holds a CPA degree from the University of the Republica Oriental del Uruguay and has completed post-graduated business executive studies in Universidad de Montevideo.
Currently he integrates the Board of Directors of the Uruguayan-Germany Chamber of Commerce and is member of the US Chamber of Commerce and the Scandinavian Chamber of Commerce in Uruguay and is an active participant of other several entrepreneurial and civil organizations and forums.

Dr. Manuela Heiss

Manuela Heiss has 20 years of experience as a corporate lawyer and banking and capital markets specialist working with large international corporations as well as with small and mid-size privately held businesses. Manuela is an expert in negotiations and mediations and works on all legal aspects of corporate finance and capital markets transactions.

Manuela joined the Weigel Corporate Finance network in 2004 after working in corporate law for different international law firms in Frankfurt, Munich New York and Zurich. Manuela is admitted to the High Court in Frankfurt am Main, Germany. She worked at the law firm of McGuire Woods Battle & Booth in Zurich, at the law firm of Debevoise & Plimpton in New York and at the law firm of Beiten Burkhardt Mittl & Wegener in Munich were she also was admitted to the High Court. During her training she worked at the law firm of Walter Conston Alexander & Green at New York.

Manuela studied law at the Universities of Heidelberg, Mainz and Frankfurt were she received her law degree. She took the bar exam in Wiesbaden, Germany, in 1990, and earned her PH.D. degree in 1993. At that time she worked as research fellow at the Institute for Banking Law at the University of Cologne led by Prof. Dr. Norbert Horn. She earned a Ph.D. for her work on the transformation of the EU De-merger Directive into German law.

Geoffrey I. Marney

As a Managing Director of Weigel Corporate Finance, Geoff is focused on cross border business, bringing Wall Street and Bay Street expertise to internationally focused business owners. Geoff focuses on traditional investment banking transactions including raising capital as well as traditional M&A services selling businesses or divisions, advising on acquisitions and rollups.

Geoff began his career in the late eightiess in the software and telecommunications sector and spent a number of years working with leading firms such as NBTel, Aliant Telecom as well as a number of technology joint ventures with Nortel Networks and Bell Canada. He went on to run international business development operations an International human resources consulting organization. Geoff joined an Investment Banking Group based on Bay Street in Toronto and eventually founded Pathpoint Capital Partners, an Investment Bank focused on the lower middle market before joining the Weigel Corporate Finance team. Geoff’s early enterprise experience in the high tech sector has been invaluable in dealing with clean technology and has a long standing belief that any technology must either solve a real world issue or a concrete economic problem or it should never be commercialized.

Geoff has a BSc from DeVry University in Phoenix, Arizona with a major in Operations Research and a Minor in Accounting. He enjoys sports and physical activity, is actively involved in the community and loves spending time with his wife and eight children. Geoff serves on the advisory board of Faithshire Leasing Corporation.

Rosana Bomba

Rosana Bomba holds a CPA degree from the University of the República Oriental del Uruguay and a post-graduate in Corporate Finance from the Catholic University of Uruguay. She has more than four-teen years of professional experience, previously to joined the Firm she worked for Deloitte. Rosana is highly knowledgeable in M&A deals, company valuations and investment projects development mainly in the logistics and agribusiness sectors.

Gustavo Havranek holds a CPA degree from the University of the República Oriental del Uruguay and and has completed post-graduated executive studies in Business Administration in the University of Montevideo.
More than twenty years of professional experience mainly in the financial industry, he worked for More Money Transfers, Banca Privada ‘d Andorra and Aiva Holding. He is highly competent accounting professional / entrepreneur with a strong background in general management, commercial and financial sectors, and compliance positions.

Josh Hu

Josh Hu is Head of Greater China region for Weigel Corporate Finance. With more than 10 years experience serving large Chinese and European international companies, he has set up reputation in helping Chinese customers develop business in international markets, his focus lies on M&A transactions, business development and market entry strategies for large clients.

Josh Hu earned a BA from Beijing Institute of Technology and a Master degree from Uni-Duisburg-Essen. Before joining Weigel Corporate Finance, he has started his career in 2007 at BASF AG and then joined Huawei Technologies in 2008, as network sales director he helped Huawei set up business in Switzerland from 0 to 100M CHF annual revenue, in 2011 he joined China Merchants Group and started doing business in renewable energy area, as Head of Business Development he helped the company set up a strategy and important partnerships, CMNE is now listed at the Hong Kong Stock Exchange (00686).

Thomas Goetz

Thomas York Götz contributes twenty years of experience working with technology start-ups, family-owned businesses, private equity and listed companies. Thomas is an expert in team building and entrepreneurship with a strong marketing and finance background.

Thomas lives in the Netherlands and leads the Benelux and Northern German business development for Weigel Corporate Finance. He also leads the execution of international projects in various industries.

Matthias Bruck

Austria and CEE

Matthias joined Weigel Corporate Finance in 2012 as external advisor when he started his own private equity investments after his five year tenure as Director for Business Development at the Austrian Business Agency where he was responsible for Switzerland, France, Benelux and Scandinavia. He now assumes responsibility to further develop Austria and Central and Eastern Europe and lead the automotive and manufacturing sector.

Matthias covers Austria and central and eastern European markets and brings in a wealth of experience in electric mobility, energy efficiency, renewable energy, “startup business issues” and “old economy” He is also member of the Board and shareholder in various clean technology companies.

Before joining the Austrian Business Agency Matthias held different executive management positions in the pulp and paper and the telecoms industry in Austria, Russia and Central and Eastern Europe and is still serving on the board of the European Data Security Institute since 2002.

Matthias graduated from the University of Illinois (USA) and holds a Magister Degree from the University of Vienna. He also lived in Taiwan and visited Cheng Chi University in Taipei as a foreign exchange student. After two years with KPMG in Vienna he joined an international M&A advisory boutique in London where he was responsible for the origination and execution of cross-border M&A transactions with a focus on central and eastern Europe including the CIS.

Dr. Matthias Retter

Matthias is a sustainable finance professional with a previous career at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC). He led the conceptualization and development of responsible investment frameworks for Swiss private banks, shaped new financial products for a Japanese bank and developed guidelines and analysis for financing bodies in Germany as well as one of the largest sovereign wealth funds in the world.

Since 2016 Matthias advises family offices and start-up companies on VC-transactions. Working together with PGGM, Aberdeen, Hermes, MN, Nordea and Rockefeller & Co, Matthias was the lead analyst and leader of consulting work of an investor engagement awarded by the White House in Washington under president Barack Obama as Top 1 private sector innovator. Matthias also collaborated with “the five largest Private Equity-houses of France” regarding sustainable investments.

Since 2016 Matthias led projects that covered procurement in access of CHF 11.5 billion. Since 2016 he serves in the finance committee of Foundation Academia Engelberg, an entity founded by Swiss Re, Zentralschweizer Regierungskonferenz and the municipality of Engelberg.
